The Sorry Series (2007-Ongoing)

The Sorry Series #01 and #02

Victoria Melody's new work 'The Sorry Series' comes from her research into 'Englishness' These new performances are about emotional constipation, internalised repressed fury and British reserve.

#01 and #02 are about good old English queues, about the communication between queuers. The hidden language, that everyone can recognise such as a stifled cough meaning "don't you dare push in", or a hand on the bar "I'm next". The English use the queue as an opportunity to moan about things not just about the fact they are queuing but also about the demise of our country or the weather.

Queues are about expectation especially if you have chosen to go to an event outside of your normal routine. The queue is where the excitement builds into a big bubbling froth of anticipation and expectation. The queue is mainly where these feelings are left because as you enter the space the surprise is revealed and it rarely lives up to the incredible verging on impossible visualisation you imagined in the queue earlier.
